    The University of British Columbia Library acquired the Beans Collection of Japanese maps in from the original collector, George H. Beans of the Philadelphia Seed Company. Since then, the library has added to the collection, most notably in with the purchase of the George Bonn collection of 59 maps, 15 of which are manuscript maps. Local newspapers reflect the social and cultural life of their communities and thus remain a vital source of information for community members and scholars alike. Enhancing access to this valuable information encourages the study of British Columbia history and brings research material to historians across the province and beyond.

Resource Sharing BC ELN supports the BC Library Collections Gateway, a suite of tools that strengthens the entire research cycle from discovery to delivery. Following are the core components and services BC ELN coordinates to support resource sharing among partner libraries: Illume (formerly OutLook OnLine).

To identify and evaluate the key components that facilitate or restrict resource sharing of library collections and other information resources among B.C. libraries. A primary goal is to determine what can be done to extend resource sharing by removing barriers and improving those elements that affect the quantity and quality of services.
